The Burmis Tree
Located in Alberta, Canada, the Burmis Tree is a hauntingly beautiful sight. A limber pine that stood for centuries, it died in the 1970s at the astonishing age of 600 to 750 years old. Yet, instead of collapsing, it remained standing in its skeletal form for another two decades, creating a striking contrast against the towering Canadian Rockies. When it finally fell in 1998, the local community refused to let it go and secured it in place with stainless steel supports, ensuring its ghostly presence would remain part of the landscape.
