Sakisima-Suonoki Trees
Growing in the subtropical regions of Japan, the Sakisima-suonoki tree boasts an exceptionally eerie appearance. Due to the moisture-rich environment, its roots must extend above the ground to seek sunlight. The result is a web of twisted, sinewy roots that resemble mermaid tails writhing across the earth. This tree, a member of the Sterculia family, can grow up to 50 feet tall. Locals have nicknamed it "the tree of Sleepy Hollow" due to its haunting silhouette in the dense forests.
